Statement in Support of Secretary Elaine Chao

By December 23

On behalf of Leaders Forum, we wish to honor you and your legacy as a leader and trailblazer for all Americans. Among your many accomplishments, you were the first AAPI woman in U.S. history to be appointed to a President’s Cabinet. As both the current Secretary of Transportation and the former Secretary of Labor, under President George W. Bush, you have served your country with distinction and honor.

The forum would also like to denounce the recent comments made about you and your Chinese heritage by a Republican candidate who ran for Congress in Maryland – and lost. Any and all disparaging comments against you and other Asian Americans which questions your loyalty to this country due to race or ethnicity is both deplorable and unacceptable.
